Match RULES: We are a 3 Gun Nation Club Member and are following 3 Gun Nation rules for the 2018 season and the link above is a pdf of the rules. Safety is most important and our first concern at all matches and the majority of DQ’s happen when shooters are unfamiliar with the basic rules. We strongly suggest reading the rules to get an overview and understand the equipment and whats expected at the match. All Long Guns are required to have chamber flags in them at all times. Do not Un Bag your firearms at the cars to rack in your carts, use the safe tables located though out the competition range area.
Divisions Honored: The matches honor the following 3-Gun Nation Divisions. Practical, Factory, Unlimited, Practical PCC and Unlimited PCC. Please note that Heavy Optic and Heavy Sport are not being offered at this time.
Stages (Round Counts & Layout):
- The matches consist of 7 stages. We welcome those interested in 3-gun to come out and see how much fun it can be.
Matches are held in an array of the 9 dedicated competition bays at Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club.
We alternate between 1 and 2, 3-Gun Nation classifier stages at matches, and we allow re-shoots and alternate Division shoots, There is a $5.00 charge for each classifier re-shoot and or alternate division to shoot each classifier.
One of the exciting things in 3-gun is the option for the competitor to choose which firearm they will use in a stage. The option to use rifle, pistol or shotgun at each stage is shooter choice except when designated in the stage briefing. Certain targets will be designated for specific firearms only in the match and stage briefing.
Stage layouts: A review of the video links above will provide a look at the types of stages we have at our matches. We will not be posting stage layouts before the matches.
For those wishing to get an earlier glimpse of the stage layouts you have 2 simple options. The first is to come help setup, you not only get to see them you get a lot of time to walk through them. The second option is to come out early and walk them before the match begins. Because of time restraints on match day Each squad is limited to 5 minutes once your squad has arrived and the previous squad has moved on.
Estimated Round Counts: This season we have opted for a simpler method of estimating rounds counts. Shooters should bring with them a minimum of 200 – 250 rounds of pistol, 200 rounds of rifle and 250 rounds of birdshot and 15 slugs. You will NOT NEED all the rounds, however, this will allow you to Be Prepared to shoot the match and your stages with many options.
Pistol: Pistol round counts are based on (2) rounds for paper and (1) round for steel. (Handgun will be 9mm Minimum)
AR Rifle/Carbine: Rifle round counts are based on (2) rounds for paper and (1) round for long range steel (100 yards plus). (No steel core or rounds that can damage steel targets allowed) No steel targets under 100 yards can be engaged with rifle, club rule.
Shotgun: Shotgun round counts are based on (1) round per clay or steel and 4 rounds for the spinner. (12, 16 & 20 gauge lead shot only in 6, 7-1/2, 8 and 9) Plus ( 10 Slugs ) * absolutely no steel shot allowed*
Squad RO’s: We are always in need of RO’s willing to Lead and run a squad. In 2018 the Ontelaunee 3-Gun Program, with support from 3-Gun Nation ran an Range Officer Workshop. Attendees of that workshop are given first option to lead squads. However, this doe not meet all our needs for matches. So If you are interested in being a Squad RO please contact us we offer a discounted registration fee for those who signup and are accepted to run a squad. Contact Tom through this link if interested.
New to 3-Gun: For those of you new to 3-Gun and looking for basic information on the sport, the following link is the beginning of a webpage with links to other webpages and Youtube videos I started to help others find information on the sport. We look forward to seeing you at the matches.
